Wednesday Health Spotlight with Dave Sandoval: Green Superfood Spotlight

The Power of Super Greens: Chlorella, Spirulina, and Organic Kamut Blend

In this week’s Super Greens Spotlight, Dave Sandoval brought the Purium community back to one of the most foundational ideas behind the Purium lifestyle: the power of pure, premium foods that help reconnect the body with nature. Dave opened by explaining that the word “Purium” was created from two core ideas, pure and premium, because purity and quality are central to every product Purium manufactures. For this spotlight, he focused on three of his favorite green foods: Chlorella, Spirulina, and Organic Kamut Blend. Together, these foods represent some of the most nutrient-dense, chlorophyll-rich, and ancient plant-based foods available.

Dave began the training by revisiting the importance of chlorophyll, often called the “blood of plants.” He explained that chlorophyll and human hemoglobin have remarkably similar structures, with the key difference being that human blood is centered around iron while chlorophyll is centered around magnesium. From there, he connected the conversation to photosynthesis, the process by which plants convert sunlight, carbon dioxide, and other compounds into oxygen and energy. His message was clear: all life depends on this process, and green foods give us a direct way to consume plants that have transformed sunlight into nourishment.

Chlorella: Chlorophyll, Cellular Protection, and Detoxification

The first green food Dave highlighted was Chlorella, which he described as one of the most chlorophyll-rich plants on Earth. He emphasized that chlorella is especially valuable because chlorophyll plays an important role in supporting healthy cellular function. Dave used the image of a balloon to explain how cells become more vulnerable during replication. When a cell is dividing, he explained, it is more exposed to potential damage from free radicals. Chlorella, in Dave’s words, helps protect cells during this vulnerable process.

Another major benefit Dave discussed was chlorella’s ability to support detoxification. He described chlorella as having the ability to “grab” or bind heavy metals like lead and mercury, helping the body eliminate unwanted compounds. He also noted that chlorella is rich in nutrients and is one of the most researched green plants. Dave shared that it is widely valued in Japan, where it is a top-selling nutritional supplement, and he connected that cultural appreciation with Japan’s reputation for longevity.

Dave also added a personal story about giving chlorella to his dogs. He shared that his older dogs, ages 17 and 14, still have moments of youthful energy, and he credits chlorella as one of the tools he has used to support their longevity and overall vitality.

Spirulina: Nutrient Density, Complete Protein, and Blue-Green Power

Next, Dave turned to Spirulina, which he contrasted with chlorella. While chlorella has a hard cell wall, spirulina has a softer cell wall that is easier for the body to break down. Dave described spirulina as a saltwater-growing, multi-cell organism that forms a spiral shape, and he called it the single most nutrient-dense plant on Earth.

Spirulina’s nutritional profile was a major focus of the call. Dave highlighted its naturally occurring omega fatty acids, carotenoids such as beta-carotene, alpha-carotene, and lutein, and its blue pigment, phycocyanin. He explained that phycocyanin is a powerful antioxidant and noted that the popular “blue drinks” on the market often isolate this compound from spirulina. His point was that spirulina already contains this powerful pigment in its whole-food form.

Dave also spoke about spirulina as a source of iron, B12 support, and complete protein. He described it as a rare plant-based complete protein, making it especially meaningful for those looking for nutrient-rich plant foods. He also noted that spirulina is a key nutrient source in Purium’s Power Shake, along with kamut and alfalfa.

Organic Kamut Blend: Ancient Grains, Alfalfa, and Land-Based Greens

After covering sea greens, Dave shifted the conversation to land-based green foods with Organic Kamut Blend. He shared the story of kamut, an ancient strain of wheat connected to archaeological discoveries near the Valley of the Kings in Egypt. According to Dave, the seeds were found in ancient containers, and a small number of them were eventually able to sprout. From there, entire fields were grown, allowing kamut wheatgrass to become part of Purium’s green food offerings.

Dave explained that kamut is an ancient, simpler strain of wheat that had not been altered in the same way modern wheat has. When sprouted and grown into wheatgrass, it produces a deep, chlorophyll-rich green juice.

The blend also includes alfalfa, which Dave described as “the father of all foods.” He explained that alfalfa has deep roots that can reach far into the soil, helping bring up nutrients while also supporting soil health through nitrogen production. He highlighted alfalfa as an ancient land plant, rich in chlorophyll and naturally high in protein. Together, kamut wheatgrass and alfalfa create a powerful land-based green food blend.

Green Foods and the Purium Lifestyle

Throughout the training, Dave connected these products back to the broader Purium mission. He spoke about regenerative farming, nutrient-rich foods, and the idea that what is good for the body can also be good for the Earth. This is part of what he calls the Purium lifestyle: a way of living that supports both personal wellness and planetary wellness.

Dave also shared that Chlorella, Spirulina, and Organic Kamut Blend are currently 30% off, making this a great time for customers and Brand Partners to try them individually, add them to shakes, or explore new ways to incorporate green foods into daily routines.

One of the most memorable ideas from the call was Dave’s statement that the easiest way to achieve “the light within” is by consuming foods that convert sunlight into energy. He encouraged the community to embrace green foods as a way to nourish themselves and their families with some of the most powerful plants on Earth.

Dave closed by reminding everyone about upcoming Superfood Social opportunities and mentioned two blog resources now available: What Are You Feeding Your Brain? and Is Your Body Experiencing a Collagen Crisis? He encouraged the community to read and share these blogs as educational tools.
